Industrial Design

Humans are a tool making animal. We have been making tools for assisting us since our inception as a species. Over the years, these tools evolved along with us. Modern manufacturing and material technology enabled the creation of more efficient and complex tools and products. This act of making tangible products that add value to our life and make it better, is called industrial design. Even today, our tools are evolving. New products are being made each day. They need to be more intuitive, ergonomic and aesthetic. That is where we come in. We create products with empathy and humanity as the focal point. It's time we not just make our tools, but design them too.

Visual Communication

"A picture is worth a thousand words". There is a reason why this quote is overused. A single image can convey an idea faster and better, than it would take several sentences otherwise. Visual communication is the art of passing information to people by the use of gestures, images, signs, posters and short films among others. It is a story telling tool, used by humans since ancient times. The right kind of visual can create a strong emotional response, irrespective of the viewer's culture, language or ethnicity. We understand this. At Studio Carbon, we use visuals not just to paint a pretty picture, but to elicit the right emotions. Head over to our work and let the visuals tell their story.

Systems Design

Simple problems can be tackled by simple solutions. But sometimes, a problem is so vast, so complex and interconnected, that no single remedy exists. A solution might be solving one part of the problem, but worsen another. Such problems are called 'wicked problems'. These include issues of climate change, world hunger, suppy chains etc. To understand these systems well, one needs to look at the macro as well as micro scale. To zoom into specific aspects, and to zoom out for the bigger picture. Systems design employs Systems Thinking and collaboration to analyze and synthesize the functioning of a system, its components and correlations. Using tools of systems thinking, we bring new perspectives to the table, and optimize systems through direct and indirect approaches. It is indeed, a holistic way to design.

Spatial Design

We have always had an intimate relationship with the space around us. We are spatial beings. The three dimensions around us determine our mood, productivity and experience. We have memories attached to certain parts of our workplace, our home and even the path in between. The interplay between the emptiness and fullness of a place creates an experience unique to it. The shapes, colours and lights work together to carve a story. As designers, we do just that. Giving spaces their story, promote their vision, and eventually, create memories.

Design Dialogues

What distinguishes us from other communicating beings is the ability to have dialogue. To use language as a medium for discussion. To create, mold and change mindsets. A dialogue is the pursuit of truth in conversation, or to its greatest extent possible. Dialogues are a tool to bring forth important topics to light. It has the power to empower new generations and to spark change in the old ones. At Studio Carbon, we attempt to do this through every project. But this section is specific to the act of creating dialogues. Our work ranges from conducting workshops, designing thought provoking platforms and participating in discussions, to playing our part in promoting design education. Sometimes, the best way to solve problems, is to start a dialogue.

Strategy Design

The difficult part isn't coming up with ideas, but to see them through. And the best way to transport an idea to reality is in the vehicle of strategy. Strategy and planning has been essential to our survival and growth as a civilization. We have survived harsh climates, built empires and grown economies through it. Today, it is essential for a successful product launch, brand identity or even to determine how customers experience your idea. It is used to build the perfect narrative for your vision. Our tools for strategy go beyond brainstorms and sticky notes. They are contextual, iterative and comprehensive. Because we understand, that a good strategy is not the end result of a design process, but the starting point of one.
